Valley Forge Fabrics Makes Huge Leap In Achieving Total Carbon Neutrality By Implementing Carbon Neutral Shipping From UPS.

April 11, 2012

Valley Forge Fabrics, established environmental steward, announced today that it has implemented UPS’ carbon neutral shipping program. In an effort to continuously reduce their effect on the environment, the company partnered with UPS to reduce its carbon dioxide (C02) impact while further demonstrating its commitment to a healthier planet.

Valley Forge, the world’s largest supplier of decorative textiles to the hospitality industry, ships thousands of packages to customers across the globe every year. Shipping is one of the company’s largest emissions sources and makes up 95% of all the company’s Green House Gases. As of today, every package Valley Forge ships will automatically include UPS’ carbon neutral shipping option. Customers around the world who receive UPS shipments from Valley Forge will see every label containing “UPS Carbon Neutral Shipment.” The label indicates that UPS purchased high-quality certified carbon (CO2) offsets on the company’s behalf to balance out the emissions produced by the transportation of its shipments. UPS has supported projects that include reforestation, landfill gas destruction, wastewater treatment, and methane destruction. The calculator used by UPS is based on Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the most widely used international standard for carbon accounting and reporting. UPS carbon neutral option is verified by Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS), an inspection, testing, and verification company. Additionally, UPS carbon neutral process is certified by The CarbonNeutral Company.

Valley Forge understands the importance of transparency within its sustainability efforts and the significance of smart operating decisions accompanied by responsible environmental policies. In 2011, through participation in the GSA Green House Gas Emissions Inventory Pilot, Valley Forge committed to reducing its CO2 emissions by 2% by 2012. “I am thrilled we have implemented the UPS carbon neutral shipping option. It is a giant step toward achieving total carbon neutrality and crucial in furthering our sustainability initiatives while alleviating our impact on the environment,” says Ken Koneck, PR Manager for Valley Forge Fabrics, Inc.

For Valley Forge, who has been called a “sustainability super-power,” the decision to use UPS’ carbon neutral shipping option is one more way for the company to communicate its core commitment to the environment to their customer base and global supply chain.

UPS is the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain and freight services. With more than a century of experience in transportation and logistics, UPS is a leading global trade expert equipped with a broad portfolio of solutions. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 215 countries and territories worldwide. The company can be found on the web at UPS.com.
